We Have Given an Appreciation Plate to Screenwriter Deniz Akçay and 03 Media Productions

As the Hand in Hand for Birth Association, we place significant importance on positive media representations of childbirth. Deniz Akçay, the scriptwriter of "İstanbullu Gelin," has provided valuable support to us by incorporating childbirth preparation trainings and highlighting the importance of midwife support in the TV series.

 

While the episode of childbirth was 25 minutes in the show, 6 episodes have displayed the issues of childbirth preparation, midwife support, partner’s presence during labor, delivery in a room, and skin to skin after birth; which are all issues that we attribute great importance to. In order to enable the these scenes to be transferred correctly to the audience, Gynecologist Hakan Çoker and Midwife Serpil Varlık have taken roles in these episodes.

We have offered our gratefulness to Deniz Akçay and 03 Media Productions through the President of the Hand in Hand for Birth Association Neşe Karabekir’s provision of the plate. Through this, we want to call all media platforms to eliminate negative and traumatizing birth experiences in their representation, and replace these with educating and positive delivery display; and we want to state that we will continue to support media outlets that give the same importance to these issues.
